Movie 4 - "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"

Wowza!  What a day.  One thing about teaching...never a dull moment.  After a day like I had, there was only one thing to do...Disney!!  Our first animated film of this classic movie road trip.  I have not watched this movie in years, and I had forgotten alot of its details.  Parts of it must scare the poo out of little children.  The whole scene where she is running from the woodsman is scarrryyy!  So who is your favorite dwarf?!  I will spill mine in a bit, but before that...an overview.  (Although if you don't know the story, where have you been?)  One more thing-the music.  This movie actually had a soundtrack when it was released!  That was unheard of for the time.  "One Day My Prince Will Come" and "Whistle While You Work" are classics.  Even now I can sing along.

This movie was released in 1937, Disney's first full-length animated picture.  After her mother's death, the princess Snow White, is raised by her evil stepmother the queen.  The queen is actually a wicked witch with a magic mirror that tells her that she is the fairest in the kingdom.  One day, the mirror tells her Snow White has become the most beautiful.  The Evil Queen, angry and jealous, orders the woodsman to tak Snow White into the woods and kill her.  Right before the act, the woodsman repents and is unable to follow through.  Snow White runs off to hide and finds a dirty little cottage.  The cottage ends up belonging to Seven Dwarfs: Doc, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Bashful, and Dopey.  The Dwarfs, even Grumpy, end up loving Snow White and her singing, cooking, cleaning ways (watch out Betty Crocker).  Meanwhile, the queen learns that Snow White lives.  The Dwarfs warn Snow White to be careful and not talk to or trust anyone.  Snow White, however, ignores the instructions (dumb) and allows the Evil Queen, transformed into an Old Hag, to poison her with a beautiful apple.  Snow White falls into an enchanted sleep that can only be broken by true love's kiss.  The Dwarfs go after the queen, during which she is killed in a horrendous manner, if you ask me.  The Prince is actually a minor character in this version of the story, only appearing in a couple of scenes.

So, I read on IMDBhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029583/trivia that Lucille La Verne, who voiced the Evil Queen took out her teeth to get the Old Hag voice right.  Ha!  If that is true, it is an awesome nugget of trivia.  All in all, this really is one of the best animated films of all time.  To be honest, it is just a good movie.  So grown-up or seven...a great pick!  Oh yeah.  My favorite Dwarf!  Drumroll.......Dopey!  He is hilarious, with that little walk and his inability to walk without causing mass destruction.  Oh!  Plus that squeaky feather he sleeps on.  And he dreams like a dog.  Can't get enough of Dopey.  Hands down numero uno.  Til tomorrow, when I will dip into a more dramatic film.  Nighty night!
