Movie 13 - "Singin' In the Rain"

This 1952 is one of my all time favorites!  Singin' In the Rain is set in the late twenties when silent pictures were coming to an end and "talkies"  were debuting.  Gene Kelly and Jean Hagen play silent actors who play lovers.  Everybody got that?  Kelly plays Don Lockwood, while Hagen plays Lina Lamont.  Aren't those great movie names for the time?  They are joined by Donald O'Connor playing Don's best friend Cosmo, and Debbie Reynolds playing Don's new love interest Kathy.

We start with Don and Lina being silent actors playing love interests.  Unfortunately, Lina seems to think the "love" they portray is actually real.  Her delusions lead to jealousy and a big scene at a studio party.  Here Don meets Kathy, a chorus girl.  Lina, sensing the connection, gets feisty and ends up covered in cake and threatening firings.  Don searches for Kathy, even though she wants nothing to do with him, after finding out she had been fired by the company.  At this party, talking pictures were also introduced to the actors, and a new era begins.  Lina and Don are going to begin making these pictures.  Then Lina speaks!  Oh my gosh!  She sounds like a two year old.  The studio and Don quickly see that Lina is the weakest link in this chain.  Kathy reappears and a romance begins.  A business deal also begins.  Kathy will dub Lina's lines without the actress knowing.  Everything seems rosy until Lina finds out and flips out!  She threatens the head of the studio and wants Kathy to dub her forever without any recognition!!  This would diminish her career.  Kathy blames Don for a lot of these issues.  Plots, schemes, and comic song and dance numbers intersect the story often.  It all comes to a head when the scheme is uncovered to the public.  When it boils down to it, all the people get what is expected.  Don gets his girl.  Bad guy out of the picture.  And we get to watch Donald O'Connor dance and sing like crazy.

I love this movie!!  Watching O'Connor sing "Make 'Em Laugh" is a joy everytime?  The key to this is two-fold.  Can Don and Lina make it into talking pictures?  Can he convince Kathy to be with him?  Enjoy this classic and let me know!

P.S.  Sorry this one is kind of lame guys!  I was literally falling asleep while typing.
